This
ode which has eight couplets is composed by the
great seer Narad, in honor of
Lord Ganesha (i.e. Gauriputra, the Son of Gauri;
another epithet is Vinayaka). The
first 4 couplets mention the 12 epithets of Lord
Ganesha and the rest point out the benefits that
a devotee may enjoy if he/she recites this ode three
times in a day,
every day. The epithets as they are enumerated are
: (1) Vakratunda (2) Ekdanta
(3) Krishnapingaksha (4) Gajavaktra (5) Lambodara
(6) Vikat (7) Vignharajendra
(8) Dhoomravarna (9) Bhalchandra (10) Vinayaka (11)
Ganapati (12) Gajanana
It is believed that Lord Ganesha fulfills all the
healthy longings of His devotee. No calamity would
befall His devotee. The seeker of knowledge will
get all knowledge. One desirous of earning wealth
will surely get it. A person will be blessed with
a son, and one who seeks salvation (i. e. Moksha
- freedom from a continuous cycle of birth and death)
will get it. Such a seeker will find fruition of
his/her desires in six months and verily all the
benefits in a year. One who writes this ode and
submits it to eight seekers of knowledge will get
all knowledge with the grace of Lord Ganesha.
